The match Lord Hawke's'team v. a Nelson eighteen commenced to-day on a heavy wicket, but the weather was fine. Nelson sent tho Englishmen . in first, and the two first wickets fell for -i.. Whatman and Taylor made a stand, and the innings closed for 185— Whatman 50, Taylor 51/ Johnston 22, Thompson 10, Warner 22. Stanning and Fane failed to scoro and extras totalled 10, Nelson's first, innings commenced at 3.20. but the bowling of Thompson and. J.largreaves was altogether too good for the local men, who made a procession to and .from the wickets, Duncan being the highest scorer. Eight failed to score, and the total pf the first innings was 28, Nelson followed on.^and has lost 3. wickets for 33—Duncnin (in) 12.
