High School.

The annual break-up of the above was held in the Convent yesterday evening, in the presence of a number of the parents and friends of the pupils. The Very Rev. Dean Burke occupied the chair, and presented the prizes to the winners. Considerable pleasure was added to the occasion—although such gatherings always recall pleasurable feelings of themselves—by a short programme of music and recitation given by the pupils in a manner that must have made both parents and teachers feel pro nd of them. After the distribution of the prizes, during which the pupils applauded the more popular of their class-mates, the' Chairman referred to an election which had recently taken place among the pupils, when they had selected by ballot the girl who had been most amiable in her manners and most lovable in her dealings with her fellow-pupils. There had been three girls concerned in the voting but the majority . had gone towards Miss Ida McKenzie, whom the chairman crowned with a floral wreath amidst the applause of the company. In dismissing the. pupils for their six weeks vacation Father Burke expressed pleasure with the little concert provided, which, he said, the little children began very timidly, with *a gentle cooing, which gained in strength with the different classes, and finally ended in that triumphant burst of melody (a fine pianoforte duo by four young ladies) which they had just heard, and which formed a fitting conclusion of the year’s work. He dwelt in pleasant vein on the past year’s work, during which tho pupils had given satisfaction. There had been an increase in the attendance at tho school, and an increase in efficiency, very pleasant facts to record at the end of the year, and a number of the pupils had distinguished themselves in the Trinity College musical exams. He gave them a hint as to enjoying themselves during the holidays, after which they would return to the school with renewed energy, and anxious to begin work. To those who would not return he hoped they would be a credit to the school ; that their conduct would never cause a blush of shame to rise to the faees of their teachers, but that it would be such as to make all who had been connected with their early education feel proud of them.
