MATAURA v. STAR. Taking advantage of the holiday a team from the town club went out to Mataura yesterday and put in a pleasant day against tho Falls representatives. Anticipating foemen worthy of their steel the eleven chosen to represent Invercargill included several good wielders of the willow and also good trundlers. Mataura had therefore to face a fairly strong combination and with Wilson and Keano for opponents (aided by lesser lights) the home team had something to negotiate. It was not therefore a matter of surprise that the visitors had their less experienced brethren at a disadvantage. On a good matting wicket Mataura’s total amounted' to only 32, and this score was quickly passed by the Invercargill's first three batsmen. The bowling of the country men was quiokly. mastered and of their opponents only two failed to reach double figures. Following were the scores :— MATAURA (list innings.) Carver, cJ.
