MjrMeNab, on behalf of the residents, presented Corporal Gibb and Trooper H. fceatifce each with a gold Maltese cross, suitafite inscribed. This belated function, it was explained, «as owing to the fact that Corporal Gibb bad only recently retwned to the colony, he having been invalided to the Old Country from South Africa. The Murihiku Mounted Rifles were in camp all last week and dispersed on Saturday flight fffter having expej* ence £ ™»£» which had damped everything bit their ardour. IndeedTso wet and «toppy did the camp become that the tents had to be abandon©* about the middle of the week and quarters taken up in the goods shed, but notwithstanding the faot that drill was thw considerably interfered with, both me^ and Horses showed marked improvement in their movements at the end of tfce week. The sports organised for Saturday would have been a fitting wind up for the encampinert, a large crowd having gathered to wit> ness them, but owing to the accident which befel young Beange (who is still lying unconscious) quite a damper was thrown over the whole proceedings. !BtbNpv.
