Riversdale
(FROM OCR OWN CORRESPONDENT. ) For the past week we have been comparatively free from parching winds, which, prevailing so long, were becoming a menace to the growth of cereals and grasses to an extent that was vexatious to the farmer and irritating to the traveller. Sunshine, coming after the recent rain, is rapidly making improvement on the appearance of the country. The A. and P. Association's Show at Gore is a pleasant memory to all the local com- ' petitora since they, with one exception, annexed a large proportion of first prizes. The number of competitors from this district is considerably less than one would expect from the great interest displayed in this popular fixture by our large agricultural and pastoral community. Mr Wm. Fraser, M.H.R. was here on Friday last. Our member appears to have been very successful in getting votes for public works in his electorate. Local bodies interested, however, have been slow to move in getting the moneys expended. It will therefore be readily understood that if votes are allowed to accumulate under the head of unapplied for and unexpended, that this fact operates against the member in applying for votes for other works. Those interested in local applications for public works, should interview Mr Fraser upon his return here, probably next week. The local contingent of the Mataura Mounted Rifles, mustered here last Wednesday and it is understood will continue to so meet for drill, until Captain Bowler considers they have attained the proficiency requisite for their inclusion in the combined and central corps at Gore. The dairy factory has recently slightly improved in favour, a few new names being added to the list of suppliers. The milk supply, however, is still little more than half the capacity of the plant. The bulk of the season s output has been sold at a highly satisfactory price, and the quality of the manufactured article being uniformly good, the management hope that the profitable returns now being received by milk suppliers will give a greats impetus to the development of the industry in the district. Trooper G. L. Heenan, of the First Contingent, is expected to reach his parents home at Pyramid on the 22nd inst. and probably the welcome home social to be tendered him by residents will take place lier« on Christmas Eve. 11th Dec.
