(Pkh Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 13. In the Supreme Court to-day Ellen Power sued W. B. Rowntree, contractor, and Geo. Smart, bricklayer, for £1000 damages for the death of her husband while lie was working on the ground floor of a building. A piece of timber knocked down, it was alleged, by Smart's son, fell and hit Power on tho head. From the injury thus indicted it is alleged that he died. The case was not completed. At the hearing of the Drivers' dispute before the Conciliation Board to-day, the City Engineer said the wages of workers in the colony were much higher than in England, but remuneration to professional men was the very reverse, while liring, he said, was 25 per cent, dearer in colonial cities than in the North of England. A Kaffir, who was a passenger by tho Moaiia, was not allowed to lana, he being unable to comply with the educational test.
