LONDON, Nov. 13. A captain of the Royal Navy will have a commission on the Ophir, which conveys the Duke and Duchess of York to Australia. Two cruisers will escort the Ophir. The Britannia has left Southampton with the troops to take part in the commonwealth inauguration. The contingent consists of men picked for good conduct and general smartness, and includes the tallest in the British army. Immense enthusiasm was displayed at Waterloo station, where several generals and a number of the aristocracy were amongst the crowd. Earl Onslow has been appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary for the Colonies ; Earl Hardwicke, Parliamentary Under-Secretary for India, and Lord Raglan, Parliamentary Under-Secretary for War. The U.S. Government supports Britain's protest against the Venezuelan Government's annulling a British company's privilege to exclusively navigate the Macarea and Pederenaleo channels of the Orinoco. The Scottish and New Zealand Investment Co's report shows a profit of £3308, of which £2887 has been added to the reserve, and £421 carried forward.
