The Premier supplies the following information : — _ i The Governor has received the following : telegram from the Secretary of Stat 9 tor the colonies : -" Her Majesty's Government j desire to express to your Ministers their cordial thanks for the readiness diuplaynd to meet their wishes for the temporary employment of part of the Australasian squadron in China. This fresh instaceeof the readiness of the colony to co-operate with the Mother Country in the maintenance of British interests and the protection of the lives and propsrties of Her Majesty's Bubjecta is gratefully appreciated by the people of England." The Premier has received communications dated 14th and 17th May from Cnlobel Newall, Colonel Sommerville find Capf. Major to the effect that the fourth and fi'th contingents were about to move l:rom Beira to Marandella9. Out of 417 horses the tjymeric lost 20. Tne men and horses were well Colonel Sommerville adds that Lieut. Seddon, whom he met at Beiru, was in oharge of 40 men and 400 horses and that he was very well. Field Marshal Lord Roberts has cabled to the Premier that the Bret and 3econd contingents and the Hotchkiss Battery are at Pretoria and that the rest of tho New Zealand contingents are in Rhodesia. He says that he is delighted to hear that the Premier's health has been restored. Colonel Rabin has cabled to the Communder of the Forces that the Motohkiss Battery (N.Z.) has been converted into mounted infantry.
