[By Telegraph.] Wellington, Dec. 26. The match Canterbury v. Wellington ended in a victory for the former by one wicket. The last seven wicket? of Wellington only brought the total to 164, leaving Canterbury 159 to get. Coboroft made 44 •without giving a chance and with five down for 92 matters were still even. Up to this point the bowling and fielding of the local men had been irreproachable, but when Wigley and Barry came together the former was badly let off from a chance for stumping ; so easy that at first he did not attempt to get back to his ground, and Barry was missed three times, two of them rather difficult. These mistakes ruined Wellington’s chance for the two put on 53. When the last man came in four runs were still wanting and these were not obtained without difficulty, beth bowling and fielding having picked up. After some. minutes of rather exciting anxiety Wright and Malone hit off the rune, the total being 160, with one wicket to fall. Besides Cobroft, D. Reese made 20, Wigley 25 and Barry 23. Ashbolt bowled very well and had he been supported by the field would have won the match for his side.
