Friday; 28th April. The meeting was attended by the Chief Commissioner (Mr D. Barron), and Messrs A. Kinross, D. King, A. Baldey and J. Mclntyre. Mrs Love attended and stated that she had built a house on her mining occupation leasehold in the Longwood district and that the employes of the Shale Company have built huts on her leasehold and had paid her nothing. They were nob miners.—lnformed that unless they had miner’s rights they had no right to occupy her land, and she had better see the manager. Thos. Muirhead applied for section 21,block 7, Nokomai, and settlers in that district petitioned the Board not to grant the application.—Sections 20, 21, block 7, Nokomai, to be grouped and opened on the optional system. Thos. Huntir renewed his application for a lease in perpetuity over section 19a, block 2, Otama, which he has held for ten years

on grazing license. The ranger reported the valuation for improvements on the section to be £54. The County Council wrote re the aame section to the effect that they required it for a gravel reserve.—Resolved that the Commissioner and Mr Baldey visit the locality and report on the application. —County Council to be infoimed that there is no gravel on the reserve, and asked their reason for requiring the section. Samuel Stanford offered 10, per annum for the lease of section 3, block 18, Lumsden.—

Commissioner and Mr Baldey to inspect the map reserves in Lumsden and repoit. Thomas McKay requested permission to erect a swing gate into e.g. run 38 (now Bun 528.)—Request declined. M. T. Newton and John Newton requested the Board to re-eonsider its decision not to open e.g.r. 41 to selection in sections, as originally surveyedßeceived. J. E. Hodgetts requested that the balance of survey fees paid in respect of forfeited section 7, block 18, Longwood, be re-funded to him, after deducting rent for the time the seotion was held.—To bo informed that the fee was paid to a private surveyor and cannot be refunded. E. Cosgriff and Robert Tapper requested that section 10, block 2, Lillburn, be opened to selection by itself and not grouped with section 9.—Declined. James Petersen complained of cattle trespassing on sections 18 and 21, block 3, Waikawa.—Matter left in the Commissioner’s hands to deal with, on receipt of reduced valuation. William Crosbie requested that he be given credit for £2O, survey fee paid on section 10, block 13, Mokoreta, when the land is re-opened.—Referred to the Government for favourable consideration. George Bailey, for Midas Sluicing Company, asked _the Board’s consent to cut a water race through the sections in blocks 2 and 6, Otara.—Held over for Commissioner to consult the Warden. Mr R. W. Hall, on behalf of clients, requested leave to mine upon section 74, block 1, Wendon (School Commissioners’ endowment), held on perpetual lease by Margaret Wood.—Referred to the Otago School Commissioners. Walter Traill intimated his willingness to accept the office .of ranger of Ulva or Cooper’s Island, Paterson Inlet.—Government to be recommended to appoint Mr Traill accordingly. The Education Board requested the reservation of 10. acres of section 17, block 7, OteramikaHundred,fora school site.—Area to be surveyed and reserved. The ranger reported the valuation of the timber on sawmill area 297, applied for by H. Massey, to be £3.—H. Massey to be allowed to ent the timber within ten chains of tramway on payment of £3. Catherine Morton’s application for section 14, block 8, Waiau was granted. The applications of Thos. McGrath and John Sloan for titles to section 4, block 32, Limehills, and section 492, Hokonui, respectively, were approved. R. H. and E. V. Garvey’s applications were held over pending communication with the School Commissioners. Change of tenure from perpetual lease to lease in'perpetuity of sect ion 30, block 14, Longwood, was granted to Wm. Hirst, and five applications to surrender were granted. Wallace County Couneil forwarded schedules of thirds and fourths accrued from Ist November, 1898 to 31st January, 1899.— Approved and receiver authorised to pay over. IN COMMITTEE.
