Spoils to the Victors.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —If anything showed the necessity for a change in some way it came in the remarks made by a councillor at last meeting of the Borough Council, viz., that before Invercargill would get its just dues from the Government in the way of expenditure on necessary works, there would either need to be a change of Ministry or member. That is a most vicious principle to be harboured or practised in any community. Whether a an Opposition, Government, or Independent member every one has to bear his full share of taxation and is entitled to his just dues. No doubt there are many ways of shuffling past the carrying out of this principle and it seems yet another plea for the abolition of this party system, through which people have to vote on the ruling side before they can get what justly belongs to them. And I venture to think there is yet as much independent feeling in Invercargill as would again return Mr Kelly or, if he will not stand, some one of like mind.—l am, &e , Freedom. 26bh April.
