New Zealand. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, March 1. At the meeting of the University Senate, to-day, J. W. Joynt, M.A., late of Nelson College, was appointed Registrar, in place of the late W. M. Maskell. (DUNEDIN, March 1. Christopher, J.P., as late general secretary of the Hon. John McKenzie’s testimonial committae, sued the Hon. A. It appeared from the evidence that plaintiff went on with the preliminary work so as to get an idea of whan work there would be. When pressed to name his charge he eventually asked for three guineas per week, and L 25 on the first £5OO collected and the same on the second £5OO. Defendant refused to accept these terms. He was prepared to pay what he considered reasonable, and he believed Christopher brought the action to discredit the ;testimonial. After hearing the evidence Mr Carew, S.M., gave judgment for five weeks at £3 10s a week, in all £l7 10s, and cost £5 13s, less 15s 2d, which the plaintiff admitted owing the defendant. In the Supreme Court to-day, in Chambers, the libel case Fraser v. Isaac and another came up. A summons for discovery by plaintiff of the bills of cost rendered by him in connection with his duties as solicitor for the Advances to Settlers Department, was declined. His Honour said it was an application for an order to make discovery of documents. which he had not the possession of. Application for a special jury in the case was granted and the trial” fixed for 20. h inst. At the annual meeting of the Technical Classes Association the report showed a credit balance of L 530. The chairman said this would all be absorbed in the erection of an electrical plant. He said that the Association had a great deal to do to keep up with the growing demand for technical education. It was considered that the time had about arrived when the work of the Association should be taken over by the Education Board.
