TO CORRESPONDENTS.
“Tourist,” Canterbury, Melbourne—The boat service on Lake Te Anau, is to bo radically reformed before next season. A company is being formed for that purpose. As to the accommodation ashore the fact must not he overlooked that the tourist season covers about one-third of the year only, and that it would not pay to build and maintain large establishments in such isolated places for the convenience of a very uncertain number of visitors within that period unless, indeed, the Government vrould subsidise the proprietors, which they might very well do for a few years.
