Honesty Acknowledged

TO THE editor. Sir,—l would like to express through your columns my thanks to Mr L. Rodgers’ boy at the railway bookstall. On Saturday the 11th, after the meeting of the Ward Association, I was hurrying to the train and bought a pamphlet at the stall, handing over what I supposed to be a LI note, and receiving change accordingly. On reaching home I found I had parted with a L 5 note, but did not write about it. On coming to town to-day and approaching the stall to make enquiries the same lad was there, and recognised me, and before I spoke said I had given him a L 5 note on the occasion mentioned, that he had noticed it immediately afterwards, and had kept the L 4 for me in hopes that I would turn up. Of course I was glad enough to get my money, but was better pleased still at the honesty displayed, for I had no means of tracing the note, and think it but right that the lad’s good conduct should be made known.—l am, &c., W m. Templeton, Farmer. Thorn bury, 20 th July.
