Market Report.

SouTittASD Times Offick, 17th July. There has been no move in the produce market during the past week, although a slightly better demand has arisen for oats, principally for shipment to Melbourne. Prices, however, have not altered, and quotations remain the same as last week. Deliveries from the country are very small at present, and sales now being effected will have to be filled out of stored lots ; but unless a better demand arises from outside markets we cannot see much probability of an advance in prices. Advices from New South Wales show that the Sydney market has gone back Id, and that supplies of maize are plentiful, making them practically independent of our oats. The demand for West Australia, however, still .continues, although not so trreat as it was a few weeks back. Contrary to expectations the northern markets have not proved the outlet that was looked for at the beginning of the season, the demand from there being no more than usual, notwithstanding the reported shortage of crops in Canterbury, and the outlook at present is not cheerful for holders. An advance in prices as spring approaches is verj r doubtful. Current quotations may- be put down as follows :— Oats—Bright milling, Is 8d to Is Sjd; best bright short, stout feed, Is 5d to Is 51d; medium, Is 4d to Is fid on trucks at wayside stations ; sacks Id. Wheat—No change since our last report. Barley—The market is without movement; quotations nominal. Ryegrass Seed—There is still an absence of buyers, but no doubt as spring advances a demand will arise, At present best machine dressed can be bought at 3s to 3s sd, delivered in stores ; and farmers’ parcels from 2s to 2s Sd. . Chaff—The market remains dull, there being no outlet except for local requirements, and prices are nominally L2 to L2 5s per ton, at country stations. Wool—The present series of sales in London have been still more encouraging during the past week ; late prices being fully maintained, while for good crossbred wool slightly better values have ruled. _ Frozen Mutton—A slight advance has taken place in London on prices lately ruling, which we trust to see maintained, and the prospects are at present a Pttie more encouraging. The supplies of freezing sheep seem, however, to be limited at present, and the steamers trading between B'uff and London are likely to have a difficulty in securing cargo duringthe next month or two. Prime wethers and maiden ewes, fit for freezing, find a ready sale at 13s to 13s 3d, and store wethers are bringing from Ils to 12s.
