The Rowing Association haa discussed regulation* for future intercolonial races, but adjourned without coming to a iinal de« cision. There is a desire among rowing men that the association should insert a provision to meet the case of New Zealand, so that where money prizes arc taken by ciaba bat not by individuals roweni shall net be ineligible.

Hareford, supposed to be identical with Trudgeon, has been sentenced to two years' imprisonment for stealing a portmanteau. Love, who murdered hiii wife with an axe, has been sentenced to death. Received IKb, 1 a.m.

A disastrous outbreak of gas octnirred in the Metropolitan collier}' at Hellcnsburgb, and three miners— Barton and Pugh, married and with large familieu, and Sliipton, m single man — were entombed. Strong rescue parties set to work but met with great difficulty on account of gas and heavy falls from the roof. The place was reached in a few houra bat the men were dead, njiparently suffocated. There was no sign ci an ex* plosion ; other parts of the mine were unaffected, and some miners were not aware of the accident till they finished their shift. BRISBANE, June 10.

Assistant-Paymaster Cleveland, of H.M.S* Dart, was killed by being thrown from a horse at CooktoWn.
