Public IVoiices Tl)e Exhibition Winter Sale SECOND and FINAL WEEK. LAST DAY-:SATURDAY (17th). WE thank the public for their confidence. It is gratifying to us, and we should think to all lovers of fair and square trading, to see an ordinary clearing sale patronised as ours has been, advertised as it was without the aid of such catch phrases as 'bankrupt stock,’ or ‘ enormous purchases at half-price.’ The object plainly stated to be simply to sell such fashionable goods as we feared changing fashion might render unsaleable, unless got rid of promptly, with a certain proportion of every-day goods (of which we considered our stocks excessive) added. That we don’t half do things is generally known. We have consistently marked goods for our sales with the simple object of clearing them out. The good faith with which we have carried out this policy has been recognised this season by the shop being simply rushed, and the goods scrambled for ; and we have no hesitation in saying that, when our friends get time to examine their bargains, they will find that whatever the reason for the reduced prices may have been, that the quality of the goods is something different from bankrupt stock. The Exhibition is no dumping ground for rubbish. We have not bought a single shilling’s worth of job stuff in the local market for sale purposes. In recognition of the splendid public confidence evinced we are adding this week useful lines all round the house, which we did not intend to offer, except at regular prices. We do this the more readily that Mr Jas. Thomson writes with the greatest confidence in regard to the grand value and choice goods he has bought for us in London. Special bargains for the week added in— CARPETS RUGS BLANKETS DOWN QUILTS DRESSES MANTLES CLOTHING. Ribbons, Laces, Trimmings, Etc., at nominal prices. A regular treasure trove for ladies fond of fancy work and with a turn for making unconsidered trifles serve for the adornment of the home. THOMSON AND BEATTIE

WM. LEWIS & CO. HAVE much pleasure in tendering their warmest thanks to tho public generally for the way in which they have responded to onr Lest efforts to cause our Sale to I e such a qualified success. It is quite an easy matter, requiring no special ability to create a big rush for a day or two, but it does require forethought, good purchasing ability, and sound management to crowd a Drapery Estab'isbment for five consecutive weeks, and many purchasers during that time visiting and revisiting, and only expressing dissatisfaction at the lim’t of their purses. This has been our experience at our sale. We are near akin to some of our friends. We never purchase goods specially for a Sale, but at <ho same time we never lose an opportunity of COLONIAL BUYING when the quality, fashion, and price stamp our honest belief that we cannot land the same value from Home manufacturers. Indiscriminate purchasing is bad at all . times, and we never sail in that ship. Our best energies are ever concentraled in steeriug where “a thing of beauty is a joy for ever,” viz ; the height of fashion, good quality, and price the bottom Dollar, Despite the big advance on Drapery at Home, and the still larger advance of Custom Duties, we have made no increase on sale prices ; but-, by way of recognising your many kind purchases during our Sale, we have still further reduced many classes of goods. LOOK OUT FOR A SPECIAL INTIMATION IN CONNECTION WITH OUR LAST TWO DAYS OF SALE. WE ARE COOKING A SURPRISE TO WIND UP THE SEASON. WM. LEWIS AND CO., DEE STREET, INVERCARGILL.

O. W. O. Hardman, Sheriff of Tyler Co., W. Va., appreciates a good thing and does not hesitate to say so. He was almost pros trated with a cold when he procured a bottle of Chamberlains Cough Remedy.
