Christchurch, Aug, 12, The criminal sessions opened thia morning. Mr Justice Denniston said the calendarjwas not a lengthy one and the cases were not of a serious character, there being no charges of offences against the person. True bills were found in all cases except those of Kuku Karaitianu (attempted suicide) and Thomas Kennedy (theft). Robert Carlyle, for housebreaking, was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment ; James Reid was found not guilty of breaking into the Christchurch Museum and stealing gold specimens; ■ Margaret Hurst, charged with malicious injury to property, was found guilty and was remanded on bail; her husband undertaking to pay for the damage done. Wellington, Aug. 12. Valentine Verne was found gnilty of false pretences and remanded for sentence. The jury in the case of three youths named Paulmier, Brown, and Couroy, charged with breaking and entering, were unable to agree and were locked ap for the night.
