(Per Press Association). DUNEDIN, Aug. 9 Meetings at Balclutha and Kaitangata endorsed the Alliance’s Licensing Bill, and called on the district members to support the same. At Clutha the meeting protested against Mr Scddon’s apathy as Defence Minister in the enforcement of the licensing law in the Clutha electorate, and urged him to remove tho suspicion that his sympathies were with those who defied the popular will by immediately taking steps to suppress sly grog selling. At a meeting of tho Trades and Labour Council it was decided to protest against the duty on shirtings in tho new tariff, as calculated to injure the shirtmaking trade, in which a largo number are employed throughout the colony.
