Chbistohubch, Aug. 8. The C.J.C. Grand National Meeting commenced in splendid weather to-day. There was a large attendance and LB4OB passed through the totalisator. Following were the results: — ... , First Hunters Hurdles (once round and a distance) —Wynn Williams’ Vagabond, 11.0 (owner), 1; Spring’s Much Ado (11.8), 2; Johnston’s Brin (11.12), 3. Won by two lengths. Time—3 min. 13 secs. Dividends, Lid 18s 6d and L 9 12s. Maiden Hurdles (mile and three-quarters) —Bothwell’s Invader, 10.9 (F. Holmes), 1 ; Wynn Williams’ Gillie (10.6'’, 2; Paul’s Variety (9.11), 3. Won by two lengths. Time—3 min. 36J secs. Dividends, L 5 7s and L 8 Is. Grand National Steeplechase of 500 sovs. (34 miles) —W. Douglas’s Mutiny, 11.5 (G. Hope), 1; T. Alexander’s Roscuis (11.11), 2; S. H. Gollan’s Norton (13.0), 3. Liberator 12.7, Despised 1C.7, Booties 10.6, Austral 9.13, and Crystal 9.7, also started. Despised was first away and held the lead for the first circuit, but falling, at the butts, Mutiny took command and retained it to the finish, winning comfortably by five lengths. Time —7 min. 26 secs. Dividends, L 3 12s and L 3 6s 6d.
Tallyho Steeplechase.—(Two miles) — H. Pitt’s Kawai (12.7), (owner), 1: Layman’s {Glengarry (12.7), 2; T. Richards’ Armstrong (12.7), 3. Won by four lengths. Time—4 min. 26J secs. Dividends, L 3 12s and L 4 8s 6d.
Ladies’ Bracelet. —(2 miles) — W. O. Rutherford’s Jewel, (11.8) (R. Wilson), 1 ; S.H. Gollan’s Mystical (11.8). 2; Mistress Chavanne’s Ulster (11.10), 3. Won easily by three lengths. Time —3 min. 493 secs. Dividends, L 6 and Lil Bs. Enfield Steeplechase (two miles)—Sultan’s Marechai Neil, 10.6 (Katterns), 1 ; Oman’s Nero (10.7), 2; Wynn Williams’ Gillie (10.0), 3. Won by three lengths. Time —4 min. 20 secs. Dividends, L 3 18s and L 3 8s 6d.
Winter Handicap '(lt mile) —Sheenan’s Vogengang, 10.9 (Derrett), 1 ; Dennehy’s Triton (9.0), 2; Harris’s Spec (10.4), 3. Eleven others started. Won by two lengths. Dividends, L 4 15s and L 5 7s.
