The Southland Education Board.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—the above Board recently considered a case of complaint against, a country schoolmaster of punishing a child too severely, and actually took the explanation of the teacher as being satisfactory. Surely this is not right. If the school committee will not make the necessary report, surely the Board ought to make some inquiry themselves, but not from the accused. Surely in the very nature of things a teacher would not give himself away by reporting against himself. What can be the use of an Education Board such as the Southland one if all their energies are to be devoted to protecting the teachers, while the poor little children are left to the tender mercies of an irate teacher. —I am, &c., Irate Parent. 14th May.
