A Disclaimer
4 TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—-I was greatly surprised at a statement made in your issue of this morning, re the case of supposed child-murder, to the effect that I had examined the bodies of the children on behalf of the defence. Expert medical evidence is always unbiassed ; the medical expert seeks to elicit the truth, and states facts, without concerning himself whether they are in favour of, or against the accused. I was unable to be present at the post mortem examination, and impelled by natural professional curiosity, I applied, through Mr Hanan, to be allowed to examine the bodies afterwards. This permission was kindly granted. Farther I am in no way connected with the case.—l am, &c., J. A. Fullakton, Surgeon. Invercargill, 14th May.
