Tho inquiry into the loss of the s.s. Rodondo on Pollock’s Reef, off the coast of West Australia, on the 6th ult., resulted in the Court of Marine Inquiry finding that Captain H. E. Hill had been guilty of gross misconduct in the navigation of his vessel and buspending his master’s certificate for twelve calendar months. It had been admitted, the judgment stated, that Captain Hill was ten miles out of his course on the sth, and by not making sufficient allowance for a current which was shown on the chart, he wrecked his vessel and jeopardised the lives of all on board. It was also in evidence that the second mate, Air Le Maistre, did not have access to the charts, and was not aware of the vicinity of Pollock’s Reef, and the Court could express no opinion as to the current alleged to have been experienced alter the vessel struck, inasmuch asCaptam Hill had failed to secure his log book, azimuth book and chart, although he was 15 hours on board after the occurrence. The bridge book, which was saved, showed that there were several alterations and erasures, and the Court was not satisfied that ;the positions given therein were correct. The captain by following the course he did seemed to court danger ; and it was pointed out that no apparent effort was made to beach the vessel or rig a jury rudder by which ship and cargo might have been saved. Captain Hill was ordered to pay L2O costs. The charge of misconduct against Mr Le" Maistre wa4-dismissed, with L 5 5s costs against the Marine Board. (Br Telegraph). Auckland, Nov. S.
