Samuel Pierce, cab driver, has been committed for trial on a charge of manslaughter, arising out of the.death of Mrs Hope, who died from injuries caused by falling from the driver’s seat of a hansom driven by acWELLINGTON, Nov. 7. At the annual meeting of the New Zea» land Amateur Rowing Association to-night the Awarua Club, Bluff, was affiliated. The application of W. H. Smith (Awarua Club) for reinstatement as an amateur was granted, but a similar application from R. H. Dixon of the same club was held over till next year. PAHIATUA, Nov, 7. Robert Beattie, one of the first settlers in the Makuri district, hanged himself on a fencing post this morning. He had been complaining of illness lately. CHRISTCHURCH, Noy. 7. Juvenile Stakes—Golden Fleece, Safeguard, Medicos, Euroclydon, Neroli, Nixie, Strathbraan, Loveshot, Molly Darling, Barmby, Caribou, Leda, Bloodshot. At a special meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Stock Book Association it was resolved to instruct local committees to consider the various entries for their respective districts and to take steps to satisfy themselves as to the history of any flocks and report to the central council. The duties of local committees were defined so that they should simply act as advising bodies to the general council. A seven-roomed house, occupied by G. H. Glover, on Wilson’s road, was destroyed by fire this morning. The building was insured for L4OO in the North British and Mercantile, the furniture for Ll5O, and the piano for L5O in the Commercial Union office. A conference of New Zealand racing clubs opened here this morning, but the proceedings were not open to newspapers.
