An Opera Bonnet

It was thia way : Wo were married in Jane,and during the four weeks of our honeymoon the calendar stopped. There were only two people in the world beeide ourselves—the landlord and the girl that waited on our table. There was not one minute in a day whan my necktie was straight or that Bessie’s hair was properly arranged. Then we began housekeeping, and the calendar resumed its jogging way. W< had been married just sixty days—the sire shining, the moou glistening, and kisses flying through all the time, and then we foil oof. Wo were invited to a 5 o’clock tea, and aa my wife came tripping down the ataira in her gown of dainty pink she looked the perfection of grace and loveliness. I was proud of my ownership, And yet something jarred. Iler costume was faultless with one exception—she wore a little crinkled bonnet that I detested. How I did hate that hat! ’ ‘Bessie, darling,’ said I, patronizingly, ‘you look too sweet for anything. Give me one kiss and run fightback and put on a different bonnet—you know the one you have on is distasteful to mo.’ I got tbo kiss, but my wife did not run back for a change of headgear. Then the first scowl appeared on her pretty face as she answered very decidedly : ‘I shall do no such ti ing, Harry. You are unreasonable. I’ve only worn this hat once since we’ve been married, because of your dislike to it, but now I am going to please myself and wear it. It's aHi tie love of a bonnet.’

‘But I don’t want you to wear it, 8.-saie,’ I exclaimed, with the impatience of a spoiled youn£ brute. ‘But 1 want to wear it!' she passionately replied. ‘I think you might let mo do something I like.’ Then — We aid not attend the party. It took all tbo afternoon and evening td tell each other how sorry we were. What became of the cause of our dieagreement ? Ob, I sat on it next night at the opera.
