The ship Horsa arrived off the port on Tuesday evening from Newcastle, via Otago Heads. She was taken in tow by the Awarua and anchored at the lower anchor- * Mge at 11.30 p.m., whence she was brought up and berthed at the wharf yesterday morning. Captain Robson reports having left Newcastle on the Bth inst. with a light S.E. breeze, which veered round on the 10th to the westward, and increased to a strong gale with lightning and thunder. The gale moderated next day, and thence variable winds were experienced across to New Zea - land. On Saturday at 3.30 a.m. the Solanders were sighted, and the vessel fell in with a. strong gale. Cape Saunders was abeam at midnight, and on arriving at Otago Heads orders were received to return to Bluff. Light airs and calms were experienced till Tuesday wheu a fresh easterly breeze sprung up. Waipapa was abeam at 3 p.m. and arrival made as above. The Horsa loads grain for Home, the N.Z. Loan Co being the local agents. The Ecbooner Crest of the Wave arrived at 8.30 p.m^ on Tuesday from Lyttelton, which port ~she left on the 10th inst. Strong westerly winds were experienced for the first part of the trip. The Crest sailed for Half- Moon Bay at 4.30 p.m. yesterday to load timber. Captain Peterson, who brought the vessel down, takes command of the barque Gazelle, and her mate Mr Pigeon h&s been appointed master of the Cre3t.
