The weather was lovely for the Gore Racing Club's meeting yesterday, and the coarse was in capital going order. The improvements that the club have made on the course since last season are both substantial and commodious. Especially is this the case with the grand stand, and very few racecourses in Otago, or indeed in New Zealand havebeen brought tosuch perfection within such a short period as the club has had the use of the present ground. It is now the third year since it was first used, and each year has seen more and more improvement. The saddling paddock, stewards' lawn, totaliaator house, and general appointments of the grand stand are well ahead of anythingoutside the metropolitan centres. The stewards worked assiduously, and generally everything went smoothly throughout the day. The stand and lawn were well patronised, and the Gore ladies were present m force to grace the opening of the stand. Messrs Mason and Roberts worked the totalisators, two in number. Mr F. R. White and a large staff of assistants dispensed liquid refreshments, and solids wet e also in abundance in the luncheon rooms which are situated under the stand, and are both cool and commodious. la fact all the expenditure has been made with a view to utility, and convenience, and is capable of extension should wants necessitate any enlargements. The Gore Band was on the lawn and enlivened the proceed ings with selections. The first event — the Hurdle Racewas won, after a grand race, by Justice. The Maiden Plate Gardenia won in somewhat easy fashion. The Cup was a fine race, but Don Pedro, who ran a waiting race, got through his horses somewhat easily at the finish. The Trot fell to Martha, an unknown performer, who had the advantage of 75secs., but Waxy went very near to winning. The Handicap proved too mnch for Foremost, who went well, but br^ke repeatedly. The District Race fell to Acres Moi after a splendid struggle with Marie and Token. The Flying Handicap Dunville won with something in hand. ColHngwood won the Hack Race rather easily, and was bought for L2O. L 1,16 passed through the machines, the totals on which were amalgamated and an equal dividend paid out on both. The results were as follows : — Hurdlk Race of 30 sovs. Two miles and a distance. (2n Pollock's (n.s.) b g Justice, 9st 91b (Johnston)... ",r*i.
