(By Telegraph.) (from oub own correspondent). Wellington, Sept. 16. The Premier has issued a "whip" calling his party together at noon to-morrow to decide who shall be Chairman of Committees. Mr Fish is at present the favourite candidate thongh M r W. Kelly will have the support of the Labour members. Sir M. O'Rorke is definitely out for Waikato on the Independent (or Government) ticket, but a block vote of Mr Bryce's friends is promised to Mr Lake, the Opposition candidate, who formerly represented the district. • The member for Invercargill wants to know how many surfacemen are employed by the Railway Commissioner- whose wages do not exceed 6s 6d per day. Mr Hutchison has given notice to move on Friday that it is desirable that during the recess the Government Bhould take into consideration the propriety of changing the name of the colony from New Zealand to one more euphonious, suggestive, and suitable.
