In ordtr to bring this Fence into general nse and introduce a new industry, I have determined to reduce the price from 12s to 10s PER CHAIN fX>HE question of Fencing is ito all Farmers X and Landowners an important one, and when it ia taken into consideration that it is worth more than half the Btock, Buildings and Farming Implements pnt together, some idea is arrived at as to ita cost and the importance of erecting the best to be had. As the winter is near at hand I wish to draw tbe attention of the Farmers to a TURNIP FENCE lam now manufacturing at Lady Barkly. It cooeista of slats supported and eecur d by six wires ; it cannot be broken, any concussion being resisted by the spring of tht wires ; all *he wires and slats so interwoven as to 'orm a spring when drawn tight and properly put up. Samulea can be seen at the following Sale Yards.— WAIRIO DIPTON WALLACSTOWN DRUMMOSD WINTON OTAUTAU WYfIDHAM THORN BORY And all information in reference to it can be obtained from Messrs Mitchell, White and Co, who are appointed Solo Agents for Southland. The price will ba 10a per bundle (on trucks at Lady Barky. Eich Bundle contains One Chain, and ia neatly rolled np ready for transit. In comparing prices Farmers mnst take into consideration — Ita ueatno-R ; it-< tmbstantiality ; its durability ; its portability, and ita adaptability for the purposes required. No other Fence can compare with it when these several points aie properly thought out. HINTS ON ERECTING THE FESCE. Ist— When the Bundle is unrolled, one eide will be f«und perfectly level ; place that at the top. 2nd— To splice the Fence— Prize the last elat out from tbe end of the roll, leaviag 3 loops do likewise wi v .h the end to be joined— this brings cix loops together, slip a slat through ihe six loops, and the splice is complete 3rd— Always nse the longest and strongest staple* to be had, and on no account drive them home : leave room for the play of the wire. 4tb— F«r turnip fence any kind of fastening can be used, but staples are recommended as the best, especially where square stakes are need. In concluding my remarks I may gay, that in another month or so I shall be prepared to turn out fences to suit all purposes from lft Gin to 4ft 6in high ; which has from practical use been found sufficiently high for anything. As the slats can be placed as close togother or as far apart as desired, the fence can be made rabbit, fowl, dog, sbeep, calf, pig, horse or bull proof, in fact can be mide to turn any kind of stock. I eh all also, should sufficient inducement offer; be able to place on the market a new Fire Escape and Farmer's Ladder, alto a new idea for securing stack roofs. The following testimonials will show in what estimation the fence is held by tho33 who have had the practical use of it :— WANGANUI TESTIMONIALS. Makirikiri, Wanganui, 12th Sept, 1889. Mr John Pikrcy, Wanganui. Dear Sir— Yonr Patent Fence I consider everything that can be desired in a Fence. It is easily erected, is light and ornamental in appearance, and L have found it a perfect fence for Horses, Sheep and cattle. The <enci you manufactnre for folding sheep on turnips is quickly put up and admirably answers tbe purpose.— Yours truly, W. THCS. OWBN. Mokohau, Tnrakina, 12th Sept, 1899. Johs Pikrov, ce s q, Wanganni. Dear Sir — In rep>y to yonr rrrmo of to-day I have pleasure in stating that T have found your Patent Fence most useful. It is n thoroughly good Sbeep Fence and, with a barb wire arove it I think it i« better than an ordinary wire fence for Cattle. It certainly supplies a public want in tbe way of fencing, an-) you should have a large demand fur it.- Yonrs faithfully, EDWARD N. NEWMAN. Heaton Park, Bulls, 21st Fept, 1889. John Pjercy, Epq, Fence Manufacturer and Agricultural Agent, Wilson etreet, Wanganui. Dear Sir— l have much pleasure in giving you a testimonial as under for your patent fence ; — I have need your Patent Fence for i wo seasons and find it invaluable for subdividing a turnip or other field. It is quickly put up and taken down. When a reshift is required on anything likn level ground, it can be put up in five chain lengths and rolled by one man to the neit shift. It is a splendid fence for taking in the sinuosities of a creek,— l am. dear eir, yours truly, ROBERT WILSON. Wanpranul, 27th September, 1889. J. Pikrct, Esq., Wanganui. Dear Fir— l have much pleasure in supplying a testimonial as to the value of your Fence. I have uf ed it as a temporary and also as a permanant fence, and have found it strong, lipht, easily handled, and quickly put up or taken down and shifted when required.— l remain, yours truly, FLETCHER HARBISON. Brunswick, 26th November, 1889. Mr J. Pivroy, Wanganui. Dear Sir, — I have had your Pig and Sheep Fence in use for the last twelve months, folding off both the abovo stock on root crone. I find it is most uaef al for tho purpose ; in fact, in my opinion, wire netting is not equal to it for usefulness, quickness of erection, and stability Your other kind of fence I have not used, but I have no doubt it is equally goo-*.— Yonm truly, SOBT HAIB. Waireka, Upokongaro, sth October, 1889. Mr J. Pikroy, Wanganui. Dear Sir — T gaveyoar turnip fencing a good trial during the past winter, and have no b«ritation in sayintr that it is far superior ti hnrdle-> or wire netting for folding eh^ep on turnips. I found it much qnicker to shift, and the sbeep could neither get over, through, or nnder it. It is easily strained on stout manuka stakes by bearing on the stake while putting in «he stap'e, allowing the spring of tbe stake to tighten the f- nee. An improvement might be made by a simple clip •ttachment to connect the lengths. -Yours truly, G. 8, ROBERTSON. Weretoa, 16th February, 1890. To MR J. Pib*cy, Wanganui. Dear 8ir — £ have not only tried your Fence myself, but have also seen it used at tbe Agricultural Shows. It Beems to me to answer everything in the way of a fence th3t any farmer could wish, *nd more particularly the turnip fence, which is admirably suited to the purpose, and most convenient in its portability. I wish yon every success with it, and remain, yours truly, SWBN A. CAMPBELL, Chairman Wanganui A. A P. Association. Wansanui, 12th February, 1890. MR Pikrov, Wilson street, Wanganui. Dear Sir — Having used your Patent Fencing for some considerable time, I have no hesitation in saying that, if properly erected, it makes a good and reliable fence, and »t the same time a portable one. Indeed, I think so much of it that where possible I shall continue to usa it. — I am, yours truly, JOHN W. PBAKE.
