[United Press Association.— By Electric Telegraph — Copyright.] LONDON, Feb. 3. Received 4th, 7.30 p.m. Steamers aggregating 450,000 tons are lying idle in the ports of Great Britain. Mr Justice North, in the Chancery Division, to-day decided that the Dock Companies have power to compel shipowners to discharge their own vessels. At the wool sales there is keen competition and prices remain firm. The N.Z. L. and M.A. Co. received the following cable from London yesterday : — " The sales progress firmly. Siuce close of last sales superior greasy merino has advanced per lb nearly. Fine greasy crossbred and coarse scoured crossbred have also advanced 4d per lb ; other descriptions are unchanged. Up to date 77,030 bales have been sold." The funeral of the late Mr C. Bradlaugh, M.1., was attended by labour delegates from the principal towns. Mr Morley was also present, besides many other members of the House of Commons. Silver has risen to 4s 6Jd per oz. Murdoch and Dr Barrett, two of the last Australian cricket team, have been selected in an All England team which is proposed to make a tour of the United Kingdom. Murdoch will be captain. In the House of Commons to-day the Right Hon. Mr Lowther gave notice to move that it is essential that immediate steps be taken to effect prompt preferential fiscal relations with the colonies. A calico syndicate, with a capital of five million pounds, ii being established. PARIS, Feb. 4. The sentence of death passed on Eyraud for the murder of & process server named Gouffe was not commuted and he was executed to-day. NEW YORK, Fkb. 3. Information is to hand that Valparaiso has been retaken by the President's troops who defeated the insurgent*. The country is now reported to be quiet.
