A Shocking: Tragedy
« A terrible c»ae of murder h« just been tried before the Limoges Assizes Court, It is that of a woman named Souhin, who made away with her five children. Want is supposed to have -prompted the crime. Married to a navvy who had been out of work for some time, Bnd who was taken to prison for a petty tbett on April 9, the seems at that moment to have given way to deßpair. Ihe only thing of value she bad was a goat, which furnished the milk for the baby. She sold it, and with a portion of the money bought a few yards of cotton s' uff , with which she made 'sacrificial robes' for her offspring. She occupied the whole of that day in making the dresiee, and in the evening she arrayed them all in their new garments, and killed her only hen to give them a last meal. She then put all the children to bed, and about ten o'clock commenced to sufijeate and strangle them. All the five children were found dead the following morning, when the neighbours broke open the cottsge door. The woman Souhin was atill alive after her attempted suicide. She was found guilty of murdering her five children, and w»s 1 sentenced to pens! *ervi(ude for life.
