LONDON, July 4. Mr W. H. Smith haß given notice in ihe House of Commons that he will move for the appointment of a Select Committee to inquire and report a« to the principle which governs settlements on members of Roya) Families on the occasion of their mar riages. • An explosion of fire damp occurred in one of the coal mines at St. Etienne. Of the miners at work at the time 200 perished . Several disgraceful Bcenea have occurred in the Chamber of Deputies owing to allegations having been made that M. Theve .et is implicated with a relative in an attempt to rob the S ate. After a stormy debate the Government promised that a judicial inquiry would be held into the circumstances of the alleged wrongdoing. Eighteen persons have been killed by an explosion in a fireworks factory in Paris.
