A letter from the Railway Com* mißßionerß, in reply to the Chamber's resolution of a previous meeting re shortening the time of the southern express, stated that the suggestions of the Chamber would receive due consideration. A communication from the Curistchurch Chamber, referring to a circular ißsued by the Associated Chambers of New Zealand, on 31st May last, and embodying: the trade terms and regulations generally agreed upon with reference to shortening credit, discount, renewals, &c, was received. The Ohristchnrch Chamber urged thii Chamber to get local merchants to eign an agreement, wfth a penalty for breaob thereof, to adhere rigidly to the terms therein.eet forth.— On the motion of Mr Nichol it was reeolved to reply, thnt while this Chamber heartily agreed with the spirit of the circular and would aid as far aa possible in carrying n into elf. ct, it did not see its way to interfere with individual merchants in the way of. inducing tbem to eign such a bond, binding them to a hard and fast rule under a heavy imposition in tbe form of a fine.

Mr Macpberson, by suspension or Bianaiug rale, obtained leave to move that the resolution passed at the previous meeting, orgingthe Government te open the road between Te Anaa and Milford Sound be also forwarded to the member for the district, with the request that they would give the matter their support at the proper time and place. In consideration of the importance of the subjects the Q.F. Clob;beg to request the G»aniber'a favourable consideration and assist anco. The following are the resolutions : — "That the Gore Farmers' Club is of opin on that the gentlemen choaen by the present Government to fi'l the offi c of rail way commissioners are in no way suitable for inch appointment, and strongly urge on the Southland memberß to make a ■earcbing inquiry as to why such appointment waa made." « That the Southland members be requested to see instructions be given to the Railway Commissioners by the House of Representatives «o amend the present railway tariff in the following directions: -{I) The redaction of passenger fares and accelera tion of passenger trains. After some informal discussion, in which it waß Btrongly stated by more than odo member that the Railways Act of last ees■ion had been mad« a perfect faroo of by the subsequent action of the Government, in connection with th« appointment of Commissioners, and that tht-re was plenty of room yet for reforms in the tariff of freights, the matter was roterred to the Standing Committee. When that section of the Chamber ba» considered the resolutions fully, and drafted a suitable reply thereoD, a special meeting of tho. Chamber will be held for further consideration of the subjects embraced, and tbe fioal resolutions of the Chamber, with reasons for their recommendation will be forwarded to the Commissionere.
