PARLIAMENT
(By Telegbapb. ) LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. Wellington, July 4. The Council met at 2.30 p.m. v. The Patents Designs and Trade Marks Bill was read a third time and passed. The West Coast Settlement Reserves Amendment Bill was committed and passed. The Council rose at 2.45 p.m. till to-mor-row. HOUSE OF REPRESENTAIIVES. The House met at 2.30 p.m. Replying to questions the Minister of Mines said that the Government would consider the advisableness of offering a bonus on tin discoveries on the basis of the output. — The correspondence from the Agent-General on the flax industry would be made public in a few days. The following bills were read a first time: (Graham) to further amend the Gisborne Harbour Act, 1884; (Hisiop) Oamaru Harbour Board ; (Reeves) to amend the Licensing Act, 1881. Unopposed motions occupied the House till the 5.30 p.m. adjournment. Evening Scttikg. The House resumed at 7-30 p.m. Mr Rhodes moved the second reading of the Town Districts Act Amendment Bill.— Agreed to. Mr Steward moved the second reading of the Triennial Licensing Committees Bill,; providing that committees be elected for three years, by which a saving of nearly L 20,000 would be effected.— Agreed to. Mr Taylor moved the second reading of the Eight Hours Bill, providing that' eight hours should be a legal day, and fortyeight -hours' a week's work.-- Mr Kerr moved that the bill be read this day six months. — Amendment lost by 37 to 23, and second reading agreed to. Mr Ballance moved the second reading of the Registration of Births Extension Bill, which was agreed to on the voices. \ The House rose at 10.30 p.m.
