The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) report for the week ending 4th Jan., as follows :— Wheat— Owinj to tne holidays business hai been actually at a standstill. lii any a«e,however, there can be veiy little wheat offering. Millers, however, ace well supplied, and quite indifferent about adding to their stocks. Our quotations under these circumstances must be considered as nominal. Prime milling, 4s 3 1 to 4s 4d; medium, 4s to 4s 3d, delivered. Fowl wheat, 3s to 3. 9 d, according to qua'ity. Oats — Market very fiat owing to the holidays intervening. A levival is looked for shortly, aa exports hava been on a very restricted scale recently, and stocks are very low. Dealers are not keen about operating at present, and we quote 33 at wayside stations for good Bhort feed. Ryegrass Seed— Market improving, and we have quitted a large line of machine dressed at 3s 6d in Invercargill.

H. Carswell and Co. report for the week end4th inst : — On Thursday we held onr sale of stock at Wallacetown Crossing. _._triea of stock were not numerous, but seemed quite equal to the demand. Fat Sheep— We sold wethers amf ewes (twotooth), at 9s 7d ; prime wethers reached 12s lOd, and fat lambs, 9s ld. Store — We sold during the week a line of ewes (in wool) with Jamb?, at 12-- 3d. Fat Cattle— The demand for these wai fairly active, and all lots entered found buyers a. late quotations. SH3EPaKir."S, Wool, kc. At onr sale on 27th ult we submitted a good catalogue. Bidding was as spirited as usual, and all lot- were sold. Crossbred pkins ranged from 3d each for inferior pelts to os for weil-woolled eorts. Crossbred fleece wool, in bags, 7|d per lb ; pieces, 3£i to s_fl ; rough fat, 14s ld per cwt.

Mitchell, White and Co. report having held their stock sale on Thursday. The entries in all c'asses were very limited.bnt were, however, sufficient for requirements. They sold fat cattl oa account Messrs Erskine, Youns, Moffett, aod Potheiingham at fall rates : bullocks at from L 6 for email ; up to L 7 5s for medium ; cows, l>ti 5s ; small do, L_ 2s 6d ; small light weight heifers at L 4, small bullocks at L 4 10s. Fat shorn hoggetß sold at 10s 6d ; lambs, 8s 9d to 78 6d for email. Store Cattle— Yearlings at 14s to 30s, and half grown steers and heifers np to L 2 16s. Hoesb Markbt. This market waa doll as-in on Saturday ,but privately during the week we have placed eeveral draughts at full rates ruling.
