A meeting of tbe creditors in this estate was held yesterday afternoon, the Deputy Assignee presiding. Mr Reade appeared for the bankrupt and Mr Matthews for one of the creditors. The debtor's statement was as follows j — Liabilities : Secured, L 56 ; unsecured, L 471 7s ; total, L 527 7s Assets : Secured, Ll5O. Deficiency, L 377 7s. — Secured creditor, John Thomson, junr. (secured by bill of sale over an 8-b.p. engine valued at L 150), L 56. Principal unsecured creditors : Colonial Bank, L 262 ; James tyc£ooa]d { lime awchaot ? hli\ John
Thomson, junr, L 56 ; Wilson, Tuine, and Ce., L3O; D. Kin* (Wmton), L 24 ; N.M. and A_ency Co., Lls ; and J. Hatch and Co., LlO. Tbe enly astet available for thunsecured creditors was the apparent biu plus on tbe engine. The debtor wbb examined on oath und said that he gave up his lease of his farm at Winton on tho Ist August, and MiThomson had taken possession of the engine for rent due. All his debts bad been incurred since he took up the leaso two years ago. He had lost a Court case which cost him Ll4O, and a mill of his had been burned, the insurance money going to pay rent. The loss of tho mill prevented him making a good deal of moaey, hi* earning a m 1886 bfcin.i,' L_ss. The Chairman adjourned the im fctir g for a week to enable him to make inquiries into the bankrupt's affairs.
