DUNEDIN MARKETS.

[By Tblbgbaph.] DuwEDiir, Deo, l. Mr Donald Stronach (on behalf of the New Zealand Loan .and- Mercantile Agency Co., Limited), reports for the week ended Ist Dec, as follows: — Fat Cattle— ll9 head were yarded at Burnside to-day for the week's snpply, ranging fiom ordinary to good aud prime heavy weights. Although this number was rather below tbe average the demand was scarcely so stroDg and prices somewhat receded from last week's. Best:buUocks brought L 8 7a Gd to Lll ; ordinary to good, L 5 to 1.7 10s, ani cows in proportion. Fat Sheep— 24l9 were penned, nearly all ehorn, only a few pens being in the wool. Of the whole about 660 were merinos (medium to good) ; the balance (crossbreds) representing all qualities. Competition was fairly active for prime .quality, while very little attention was paid to mediam. Prices all round were again fully Is below last week's. I'est cossbreds (shorn) brought 7s 6d to 10s ; others. 6a to 73 — a few pens in the wool, 10s 66. to 14s 6d ; merinos (shorn), 4s 3d to 6d 9d ; in the ■wool, 9a 9d. Winat continues without noticeable alteration either in oemand or value. Wea-e moving off small lots for immediate re^ui enients, but aa stocks in agranta' hands are of reiy amallbnik millers (rather lhan give tbe prices asked for. ex store,) prefer dealing d r^ct with northern dealers. Duriag the week several lots have come to hat>d coastwise. Fowls' wheat is in bett sr supply and slightly easier in price. We, quote same as last week— for best milling, 5a to 5s Id ; good to prime, 4s 9d to 4i lldjjnedium to good, 4s 6d to 4s 9d ; inferior aii'V 'fowls' wheat, 3s tid to 4s (ex store, bags in). Oats— The market continues inanimate and withont any improvement whatever in the demand ; in f ac% beyond small t' ansaefcions to meet local requirements nothing of importance h»s transpired during the past week, and we can consequently make so alterations in last week's quoted, prices. It would require considerable concessions on the part of holders to push' business, there being no disposition to pnrrh'ase at any price. We quote prime heavy milling at Is9d"to Is lOd ; short bright feed, Is 7d tf) Is 8d j inferior and medium. Is 4d to Is 64 (bags weighed in). Barley meets with slow sake. The niarkef, hnweve*, is bare, and although transactions are limited late pric p s continued firm during the week. We quote medium m-Jting at 3s ; milling 23 9d, and feed 2s 8d (ex store, bags in).
