MELBOURNE MARKETS.
The Argus report of Melbourne markets of 29th ult. 13 as follows :— Transactions advised to-day have been on a moderate scale. For flour there is not much inquiry, and we have only heard of about 50 tons ha7ing been cleared off at LB. Wheat also has not been in much request. At auction only about 170 bags were sold at np to 3s Did for prime. Privately we have only heard of 500 bags havias been disposed of at 4s, ex station. Oata are not in good demand, and prices are a shade easier. Publicly, only a small quantity was quitted at 2s 9d for fair feed up to 2s 11 Ad for good stont. Otherwise we have only been advised of about 200 bags having been beared off at up to 2s lid. Large parcels of New Zealand duty-paid oa's are being ofEered, which are depressing the market. Ba ley is difficult of sal", and at anction the offerings were vithdrawn, the bidding not being up to holders' ideas of value. Pollard is selling at from 12d to 12£d, while for bran 12d is . qnoted. Under the ham- ' mer 2057 bags Mauritius sugars were cleared off at from L25 to L2B 10s. 5.0 bags and pockets of Mauritius and Queensland were cleared off at same time at up to L2B lie. In jute goods, the biding at auction for comsacks was not np to holders' values. Privately, however, we hear of good Eales having been effected at current rates. A good demand is maintained for candles. .Publicly, GOO boxes were eoW, all faults, at from !-§d to 9d, while sound candles realised 9£d. Fruits have had more notice. Currat ts have had most attention. Publicly, 174 barrels and 443 caßes were cleared off, all faults, at 4fd. We are advised of 1000 boxes of sultana raisins having been disposed of at up to 6|J. Hops have not been in u.uch request. At auction, 83 boxes were quitted at 9d for 1883'e. and 10^d for inferior 1 -sSi's. Kerosene oil has be n in fair demand, but no eales have transpired, the recent advices regarding late shipments having firmed holders' hauds.
