This event came off on Friday, 18th met., on the farm of Mr Andrew Christie, n«;ar the township of Fortrose, and was remarkably well patronised by the public and those most interested, i.e., the ploughmen. ' Twelve double-furrow ploughs put m an appearance, and the swing plough was more fully represented than it has been at any recent match m the district. IV committee provided a liberal prize list, which was handsomely backed up by the rift of a valuable clock by Messrs Rein and Ferguson, Invercargill, and by a vase presented by Messrs C. Kohn and Co., Invercargilh In addition to these incentives to make good work there was the cup presented to the Society last year by Messrs Proctor, Jones and Co., Dunedin, which must be won twice bafore becoming the property of the successful mam This trophy will yet remain m the custody of the Society : as the lucky man of last year was hot "mi t" this time. The gifts of the firstrmentioned donors must also be won twice by the same ploughman. Mr Elliott, of Fortrose .Hotel, 'provided the necessary refreshments on the ground, and did a fair amount of business to the satisfaction of vi» patrons. The matxih passed off with goo 3 feeling, and the decisions of - judges, Me srs Jas. Milne (Mokoreta), Stirling (Sjuth Wyndham), and Blair (Otara), were accepted with general satisfaction.
