— + Wednesday, Uth Nov. (Before H. McCulloch, Esq., 8.M.) LUNACY. Isaac Lawson, charged with being of unsound mind, was remanded for medical examination. BREACH OF THE ANIMALS PBOTECTION ACT, Gr. W. Pilgrim was charged with having ehot a bird known as a dotterell on the Invercargill Educatioa Reserve. Defendant admitted the offence, but pleaded ignorance of the fact that dotterell were pro-tected.—-Mr Wade, who appeared for the prosecutor, did not press for a heavy penalty .— Fined 20a, Bud costs, LI Ba, INDECENT ASSAULT. Richard Dixon, of Bluff, who had been remanded on a charge of rape of Emma Williams, aged 5 years, was now charged with having indecently assaulted the girl. —Mr Jones appeared for the prosecutor, and Mr Finn for the defendant. — After gome argument cm the legal points of the case, . evidence was called. — — -Dr Wardal» deposed that the little girl was brought to him at the Hospital by her mother. Witness then detailed the results of bis examination. — Mrs Williams, the girl's mother, narrated the circumstances connected with her discovery that the offence had been committed, and her Bubsequent interview with Dr Wardale. The accused had been herding cattle at Hawthorndale, and often played with witness's children. The girl was five years old that day (Uth November).— Constable Griffith deposed that he had arrested the deceased at Hawthorndale on Saturday, 12th inst. . On being charged with the offence the accused denied hiving committed it, and said the girl was a story-teller, as she had said the same thing of other boyg.—Dr- Wardale was recalled and gave further evidence. — Mr Jones submitted that the' evidence, was sufficient to -warrant the committal of the accused, without the . testimony of the girl.— His Worship i referred briefly to the circumstances of the case, and adjourned its further hearing-till the 21st inst, admitting tfce Mooted to bail in LSO. . :■- V -\y\ STl** CASES. f aomber *f ftiifapti of lAWWgiH
