Fatal Boat Accident.

Professors Tucker and Walker, of the Auckland University, accompanied by a lad named Bydder, a son of Mr Bydder, proprietor of the Northumberland Boarding House, went out for a. sail in an open boat thortly after lunch* to-day, although it was squally. The boat was a small one arid scarcely safe. Off Ponsonby Reef, or about 100 yards from the land, the boat gave a lurab. Professor Walker fell sprawling over to leeward, wiih his arms over the gunwale, when the boat capsized. The boy swam to the shore, telling them to Btriko out if they could swim, or otherwise to hold on to the boat till he got assistance. Professor Tucker struck out for the boat and held on, but when he looked round could not see Walker, who must bave gone down. Three boys saw the accident, and pulling off in a dingey lescued Professor Tucker before Bydder could return with aid. Professor Tucker was found clinging to the boat in an insensible condition, b"t shortly recovered. Trie water police have been unsuccessful in their search for the body of Professor Walker. He was single, 26 years of age, and arrived by the Rotomahana, a fortnight BgOj and was tP h&ve occupied the Chair of. Mathematics and Mathematical Physics in onr University.
