Presbytery for the first Wednesday ot eyeiy second month, commencing with February; * ne R° v * r Ferguson introduced a resolution which affirmed the Hesirnfeility vof instituting a 'Southland scholarship in the Otago University for young_ men prosecuting their studies for the ministry; The resolution was carried, and) the arranging of conditions, etc., >vas remitted to a committee consisting of the Rev. Messrs Stobo, Boss, and McKenzie, With' 'T? Ml?t Macdonald, elder, convener. The committee Reported at" the evening mcfetinginfavcHvof' a scholarship of not less than £25 anriuaF value, Southland students to have preference; the candidates toi have passed the matriculation examination of the New Zealand University, and the highest to receive the scholarship, arid retain it for three years. The committee recommended an assessment for this purpose of £3 10s each for the town, and £2 each for r country congregations. -The report; met with the cordial support of the Presbytery, was adopted; and sent down io ; 'the' Deacons' Court for consideration and report. It was further resolved ihat in theevent of the Deacons' Court approv- .: ing the f scheme" and the Presbytery deciding to carry it out; it sbonld be rßtrospective so far* as this year's matriculation examination was.coucerned. On the motion of ifrßoss, the services of Mr Green were continued. for. another three months at Taringatura.\: : Mr Henry reported that the call at ;Waikaia-Riversdale in favor of the Rev. Panton Brown- was unanimous, there being. B3 signatures. . The call was sustained and ordered to be transmitted, ;and arrangements were made for the .serving of the edict at Waikaia, on the,lOth inst, and , the holding , of services on tlie 20th iintt.
