Intensely cold weather is now being experienced in Scotland, and heavy snow storms have completely blocked the roads and railway lines in many districts. Weather of a severe character is also being experienced in the North of England, and a partial snow block has occurred in some places. Beceived Dec. 2, 1882, 1.5 a.m, Dec. 7. The homeward mails, via Suez and Brindiai, which left Melbourne on Oct. 26, were delivered here to-day. Received Dec. 9, 1882, 1.5 a.m. Dec. 8. Mr Fawcett's condition is more favorable ; he is not, however, yet out of danger. A serious fire has occurred in Wood street, Cheapside, Eight houses are now in flames, and the conflagration is spreading- - The funeral of the late Archbishop of Canterbury -will 'take place to-day at Addingfon, Surrey. CAIRO, Deo. 7. The trial of the rebel leaders is now being rapidly proceeded with, and the following prisoners have been condemned to exile, the death sentences which were passed upon them haying been commuted by the Khedive: — Mahomed Fehmy and Mahomed Samy, formerly members of the Ministry ; Abdalah, one of Arabi's colonels and commander of the rebel garrison at Damietta ; and Fonlba Pasha, formerly Governor of Alexandria. Keceived Dec. 9, 1882, 1.5 a.m. CAIRO, Dec. 7. Uiz Pasha has resigned bis seat in the Cabinetin consequenceof the leniency which has been shown to the rebels. It is probable that he will be succeeded by Mibar Pasha. It has been decided that Arabi and his accomplices, whose sentences of death have been commuted to exile, are to be deported to Ceylon ; arrangement* to that effect having been arrived at with the British Government.
