The Madagascar Mystery.

-= «. . TO THE EDITOR. Sir, Mr Craig's* letter in to-dsiy's issue o£ your paper drew my attention to R.S.B.C.'s reference to the wreck of the Madagascar which I had not hitherto noticed. I also am personally interested in the mysterious fate of that vessel— a son of my father^ then partner being one of her officers at the time of her disappearance. Though a young boy at the time, I have a most vivid recollection of the anxiety caused by the uncertainty of her fate. I remember w«H the question, so often put, " Any news of the Madagascar ?" only to be answered in the negative. After mouths of anxious fears, hoping against hope, all expectations o£ hearing any tidings of her were given *jp, and from that day to this the fate of the Madagascar remains a mystery. Vague rumors Vere afloat, it is true, about her having bten scrfttled, but these rumors were founded only on the kuowledge of the valuable freight she carried, and the doubtful <\iaracter of some of her passengers, as stated, by Mr Craig. About two years ago I met \ broth jr of tho officer mentioned, and I Nun asl^ed him if anything had ever been Wid of the Madagascar, and he replied, \jCpt a word, it is as great a mys*er y_as >\er." If your correspondent lib B.C. s as to the wreck of the Madagascar^ p aciJe Harbor could b« verified, it s\eiaa to me there would be a greater myßtfry to be solred. than the loss
