(FROM OTJB WINTON COBBESPONDENT). A meeting of the settlers of the Forest Hill district. was held in the house of Mr Robert Thomson recently, and was very numerously attededj the object being to petition the Minister for Public Work 3 for the extension of the Forest Hill tramway. Mr Thomas Paterson having been voted to the chair, Mr Martin, sawmiller, read the draft of a petition, bearing on the question of opening the part already completed. Some present thought the matter of the extension being of equal importance should have prominence in the petition. It was subsequently resolved that a committee be appointed to meet at Winton on an early day, and draw up a memorial to the Minister of Works, expressing the views of the " meeting, and to arrange for the getting of .signatures thereto. Ac the early stage of the meeting some complaints were made of the action, or rather want of action, of , the Winton people, in not coming to the meeting. At a later stage one Winton gentleman put in an appearance, and as he had been one of the deputation who had waited on the Minister of Works at WintOD, he stated the result of that interview. It was decided to hold another meeting on Monday next to further the project. . December sth, 1882.
