(PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION). CHkISTOHURCH, Sunday. The Star Rowing Club, Wellington 5 Boating Club, Kaiapoi ; Union Rowing Club, Christchurch ; and Lyttelton Rowing Club bave entered for the champion fouroared outrigger race at Lyttelton Regatta on New Year's day. The time for receiving enlries has been extended to Dec. 29, to give other provinces an opportunity of entering. TIMARU, Saturday. A six-roomed house on Maori Hill, occupied by Mr Walker, a schoolmaster, and owned by Mrs Mackenzie, was burnt clown yesterday afternoon. The house was insured for £300 and the furniture for £150 in the Royal office. Walker estimates his loss at A" 100. The flames fused al) tbe telegraph wires, and interrupted communication with north for a time. DUNEDIN, Saturday. The Benevolent Institution Carnival sports were highly successful, especially in point of attendance. The fun principally consisted in well-known citizens playing a cricket match against a team of young gentlemen rigged out in petticoats. Some of the latter were perfect belles of the period ; others wore coal scuttles and gay colored prints ; and the crowd being iv the humor to be amused, laughed lieartily at their absurd antics.
