The nomination* for the Mayoralty will take place to-day, and, as far as .we know, only two candidates,-' will '.|^e , s put forward. But, there is no reason to presume that the little eccentricities that a man displays in the arena of debate are to follow him into the place where calmness and judicial impartiality alone ought, to be found. It would-be wrong to omit special allusion to the fact that Mr Kingsland's enterprise and energy in his business have led to the successful establishment of one of the largest manufacturing establishments in the place, and that there is hardly any man to whom the town is more indebted as an employer of labor. On the whole^jus claim to the Mayoralty is such as few other citizens could advance, and we bhalljbe well pleased should he be the successful candidate. In saying all this we are by no means disparaging the pretensions of Mr McDonald. That gentleman we have ♦already admitted to hare"~all the qualifications lor the office he seeks, and we only feel disposed to say to him — not now! We have no doubt that if he is unsuccessful this year, his opportunity of becoming the Head of the Council will only have been postponed.
