On the evening of Monday last, Mr Kinross eddressed the electors of Awarua district in the Meeting-house at Mavis Busb, about thirty gentlemen being present. Mr R. Coupland, who was voted to the chair, briefly introduced tlie candidate. After Mr Kinross had concluded his ad- . dress, and questions had been asked and answered, Mr Stone proposed — " That Mr Kinross is a fit and proper person to represent the Awarua district." The motion was seconded by Mr Jackson, and was carried on the voices without dissent. Mr Kinross then briefly explained matters connected with the Waihopai Riding, and received a vote of thanks for his past services. The business concluded with the customary thanks to the chairman. Oo Tuesday evening Mr Kinross ad-d-essed a well attended meeting of electors iri the School house, Oteramika. Mr A. McKenzie was voted to the chair and briefly referred to the business for which the meeting hnd been called. Mr Kinross then addressed the meeting in the capacity of candidate for the Awarua district. When the address was concluded arid questions had been asked and answered, a vole of thanks was carried unanimously. Mr Kinross then described what had transpired in the Waihopai Riding during the time be had represented it in the Southland County Council, and read the items of expenditure connected with that portion of the' County. With reference to a letter sent by Mr Brydone to the County Council. in which he complained that the expenditure on roads in the vicinity of the New Zealand and Australian Land Company's estate was not in proportion to the amount of rates paid by the Company, Mr Kinross explained that soon after he had been electedto the County Council he enquired into ; past ; as he could not perceive that anything had been done in the western part of the Waihopai Riding. Mr Geisow. the County Engineer, informed liim that at the instigation of Mr Brydone £ sum of £590 0s 6d had been spent on f rbin Edendale to Mataura bridgo, was in the Gore Riding, but the amount was charged against the Waihopai Biding. Mr Kiaross requested the newly electediniemb^r f or Gore Riding to allow a refund, but he objected. Mr Kinross considered the best course was to spend as little as possible in the vicinity of the Company's property till other parts of the Riding got a fair.share. He said this had been carried out and he considered the Company was now on equal terms with 1 other ratepayers. However, as Mr McCalium ! was undtr Mr Brydone's orders, if he j should be elected probably the Company j would again be unduly favored at the ex- '• pense of the ratepayers in oiher parts of the Waihopai Riding. Mr Kinross was thanked for past services, and the business ended with a vote of thanks to the Chairman. A person who some time ago was .engaged in obtaining signatures to a requisition for another candidate, attended the meeting, in a state of intoxication. He frequently interrupted the speaker, disturbed and aunoyed the meetiug, and refused to obey the Chairman. Mr Kinross, who has been a eanrlMarc at eleven prior elections, says he never on any previous occasion experienced such discourteous treatment,
