LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
(by electric telegkaph.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. The Council met to-day, and, after formal business was disposed of, the Colonial Secretary announced the political situation, and said he deemed,it unadvisable in the present state of affairs to proceed with business,'and proposed that the Council be adjourned till Tuesday. • The Hons. Messrs Waterhouse and Miller said it was desirable that Colonel Whitmore should state the reason given 'by Ministers to His Excellency for. granting a dissolution in the present state o£ parties? and the country. The Colonial Seci-etary, stiicl it would, be unprecedented to put Ministers' confidential advice on the table, and it could not be done without the Governor's consent.; Mr Miller said he would give a notice on the subject. The New Zealand Law x Societies' Act(Hon. Mr Hart) was read a first time, and a motion by Mi- Waterhouse on jthe subject of payment of witnesses on' Land Tax Appeal cases was postponed. _.
