The Argus of the 27th ult. reports for the previous day : — In the import market business for, the week has commenced very quietly, an exceedingly dull day having been passed in consequence of the disinclination of buyers to operate to any extent. Any sales reported have been of; very little' account. Breadstuffs maintain firmness; flour is saleable at £11 15s, and there are_W<*ers-~~who refuse to cmojte_---dor:~£rn£ Wheat - like-jSda»-rrfesem^*i^ roia ff% tone', and our quotations of" 5s 8d to 5s 9d can readily be obtained. A parcel of 250 bags, prime brought 5s 9d, and about 250 bags of second-class wheat found a purchaser at 5s 3d. Supplies fiom the country districts for last week, though a good deal lessthan the week before, are still considerable. In feeding grains there is little' to report. Oats, milling, aru quoted at ]3s 8d to 3s 9d, while feeding continue to range from 3s 3d to 3s 7d. Maize is "moving again at 3s ■ 7d' for trade*\purposes, sales being reported at the price. Quotations in Sydney are advised by telegram as 2s 9d, with moderate arrivals. We are without business to note in sugar: A Fop-chow telegram has- jusfc been received in the city which states-that samples of new season's;were coming rapidly in^ but the-, teamen spoke of high prices:;:: that?buyersand exporters had resolved not-to open the season until the 2nd June, say about three weeks < later than last year, intelligence which must $ayeits effect on the market, and prove very favorable to holders. Fruits are attracting attention. Kerosene is moving steadily in good-sized parcels for trade requirements at prices supporting our quotation of Is 2d for small lots of Diamond, standard test, new shipments. Trade sale; of Bass's bulk ale are reported at £8 10s.
